Individual development
thinking about incorporating an education that privileges the individual development of abilities above the omogenization, I have remembered an experience attended a rural school, in it the teacher devided the classroom into several groups. I thought on the possibility to do my work following this model. Taking into account that I already told you "In my pechakucha presentation" that the groups are 40 students with different learning rhythms, concerns, skills and needs . Do you think it would be a good strategy?

Oh yes Blanca!!! I truly believe cooperative work is efficient for learning not English but anything... I guess it promotes the exchange of different thoughts, opinions and ideas and that is a enriching experience for students.. However, there will be always those students that do not like to work or that leave the whole responsability to some... So, it is an extra work for teachers to be always checking and directing the collaborative task...

ResponderEliminarEven though I do not have large groups, I think working in groups is a really nice alternative, it creates team work, leadreship, and responsibility on students. The teacher´s role is to pass around solving questions and enhancing work !! A good strategy is implementing sevaral bases !
ResponderEliminarCan you explain in more detail what do you mean by bases?
EliminarBlanca, it is also a strategy that I use at my classroom every day in order to work by teams. It has many advantages because students become more creative on solving problems of human interaction and knowledge is possible to enrich resources and is more effective to develop projects to archive the goals at the curriculum.
ResponderEliminarI think working in groups is a very good strategy when we have many students in the classroom. Is a strategy where the teacher must be very careful and be very attentive with each group. Otherwise, activities become problems where discipline is not easy to control.I propose to take into account the following steps:
ResponderEliminar1) Allow students to initially form groups as they want and feel more comfortable
2) Be very attentive with the groups and verify that they are working properly, ie, to see if the members of the groups are actually developing the activities. Otherwise it is better to change chairs to those that cause indiscipline.
3) Be very clear about the objectives and goals to be addressed with each activity
4) Perform a constant evaluation of each activity. Where it is necessary to take into account not only the quantitative result of the exercises, but the behavior, the interest and the participation.
5) the teacher should create an appropriate working environment, instilling collaborative work and encouraging students to actively participate and ask questions without fear of misunderstanding.
I was thinking to choose the members of each group by myself since the beginning, because that way the group will organized according to some skills and needs instead of friendship.
