Assessment as an ethical consideration

As teachers or trainers of an Educational Institution, we fall  into the error of implementing assessments without taking into account the specific knowledge or abilities of each one of the students. Even in many cases, we limit ourselves in a simple test as an assessment for all the process and not an overview of a whole formation. Colleagues, which one do you think should be the form or aspects to have present at the moment to evaluate a process related to the learning of a foreign language?

  1. We must consider our students´s background and the knowledge that they have been acquiering during the process. Moreover, I consider from my standpoints that we as teachers ought to take into account previous knowledge and take some time to make with them a feedback process, where they can remember all the knowledge taught or learnt in their learning procese. On the other hand, it it important to take a look of this assessment process from an integral way, where it can be evalueted the discipline, the orden, and the competences as well as parts of this formative process.

  2. It is a very interesting issue at school. We do not learn in the same way. Nowadays, Nowadays, educators have to take into account the educational needs of their students. Because, many of them present hyperactivity, deficit attention disorder, dyslexia, dyscalculia, cognitive disability, down syndrome… Added to this, each student has a style of learning of which the teacher must be aware in order to potentiate the learning process.

  4. As human beings we have the right to freedom that is the right to express opinions and think differently from others. In the same way we have the freedom to be different, to see the world from other perspectives and not for this we must be repressed or isolated from the social environment in which we are (family, school, work). On the other hand, teachers intend to educate by imposing behaviors and concepts that are considered inviolable, without realizing that they are actually building a wall in each student which eliminates the possibilities of opinion, "Creating obedient beings without a critical spirit." Rafael Acosta (2005). On the contrary, the tutor educates facilitating the learning with different strategies taking into account the capacities of his students and at the same time the professor must allow them to interpret or capture that new knowledge from their being, in their way. We must start from a fundamental principle, as humans we are all different and evaluate ourselves without taking into account this principle can be a block to freedom. However, at the time of assessment, we must take into account the processes that each individual has achieved and exceed, the goals met and those that remain to be met, bearing in mind the maturation of each process.

  6. My dear Edison, assessment requires to take into account several aspects. Maybe, just maybe, during my presentation I can solve some of your concerns. In fact, one ethical behaviour for all teachers is the handling of evaluation. I recommend you to read some scholars who have interesting concepts on the matter, one of them is a closed frienf of mine, Edgar Picón Jacome, I refered to in a previous post. Meanwhile, I leave you with some proposals by (Davis,2008) who comments on the ethicsl code of testers. He argues they should be commited to a social purpose, grant fairness and support to test testers, pocess standars and work professionally.
